Short Biography

Studies of German philology, biology, philosophy and educational sciences at the University of Bonn. Finished doctoral study there in 1992; habilitation in 2001 at the University of Konstanz. From October 1993 till August 2010 at the University of Konstanz (scientific coordinator of the Special Research Project 511 of the German Research Foundation Literature and Anthropology and substitute professor at the chairs of Prof. Dr. Gerhart von Graevenitz and Prof. Dr. Albrecht Koschorke, among other things). Professor of modern German literature at the Charles University in Prague since September 2010 (as a DAAD long-term lecturer). Deputy Head of the Department of Germanic Studies, Charles University, Prague since October 2011.

Publications on the literature of the 18th – 21st century, literary theory, interculturality, transculturalism, gender studies, anthropology, recollection and memory, science and literature, as well as Prague German literature/German literature in the Czech lands.

Current Research Projects

  • „[S]o real die Klasse ist, so sehr ist sie selber schon Ideologie“. Zur kulturellen Verfasstheit einer basalen Kategorie der Gesellschaft“ (joint project with Patrick Eiden and Eva Blome; funded by the excellence-cluster Kulturelle Grundlagen von Integration at the University of Konstanz).
  • Conducting the research project Prag als Knotenpunkt der europäischen Modernen (with Irina Wutsdorff, and others).
  • Co-applicant for a research project on German literature of Bohemia (with Milan Tvrdík, Štěpán Zbytovský, and others)
