German Language and Literature

Bachelor

The graduate is ready to communicate in German (written and spoken) on the B2-level of the Europan Reference Framework;has a working knowledge of geography, culture and history of German-speaking lands and social skills related to the specific discourse, knows the intercultural and pragmatic aspects of communication, as well as the basic paradigms and genres of German-speaking literature after 1945 and the main personalities of German culture (Gutenberg, Luther, Goethe, Schiller etc.).

The graduate will gain professional skills for the following professions, among others: assistent or secretary in the public sector, administrative and organization worker in non-governmental or diplomatic organizations, in the private sector, i.e. finances, insurance, corporatioins, in tourism as a delegate or coordinator, in documentation for material research in the cultural and political sphere, in the media, publishing and marketing, where the language quality assessment of products is required.

Master

The graduates will have gained during their studium a high level of language competence (written and spoken), possess factual knowledge as well as communicative skills in the wide area of German speaking countries issues. They are knowledgeable in history, philosophy and culture of the German speaking countries. They are able to apply their language skills and knowledge in a variety of jobs at the domestic and foreign institutions, in diplomacy, EU political bodies, media, translation, editing, research and so on. They are also prepared for research work in the area of education and culture.

Dutch Language and Literature

Bachelor

The students acquire reliably a basic knowledge of the Dutch language and are able to communicate in written and spoken Dutch on the B2-level of the European Framework of Reference. They also get to know the literature, culture, geography and history of the Dutch-speaking area. They also acquire the basic theoretical knowledge to enable them to continue studying either in a Master's program which is now being prepared at the Institute, or at any other institution specializing in Dutch studies. Due to universal requirements for all university students, the students also acquire a good knowledge of English (B1-level of the European Framework of Reference).

The graduates may find employment in cultural institutions, media, travel agencies, trade representation of Dutch and Belgian companies etc.
